Coupons

Coupons are promotional discount codes. You set the discount, decide what it applies to, optionally limit when it runs and how many times it can be used, and AnchorPoint does the arithmetic — on the public register page and on any registration you're working on yourself.

Coupons live under Admin > Coupons, in the Promotional section of the sidebar.

Searching and Filtering

  • Search: find a coupon by its code.
  • Status: a select beside the search box. It opens on Active, because expired, deactivated and used-up coupons are never deleted and would otherwise fill the table. Switch it to see them.

Before v1.4.1 the status filter was a row of tabs. It's a dropdown now, matching the registration tables.

Sorting

Code, Valid and the created date are sortable. The default sort is by code, A–Z.

Creating a Coupon

Click Create Coupon. The form opens in a side drawer, so the list stays visible behind it.

FieldRequired?Notes
Coupon CodeYesWhat the student types. Maximum 50 characters. Must be unique.
Discount TypeYesPercentage or Fixed amount
Discount ValueYesThe percentage or dollar figure. A percentage can't exceed 100.
Applies ToYesAll courses and classes, specific Courses, or specific Classes
Courses / ClassesOnly when scopedSearch and select one or more. Appears once you narrow the scope.
Limit total redemptionsNoA switch. "Coupon stops applying once this many uses are reached"
Max Total UsesOnly when limitedThe cap
One use per studentNoA switch. "Prevents the same student from applying this code twice"
Start DateNo"Optional. Starts immediately when empty."
Expiration DateNo"Optional. Never expires when empty."
Scope it before you publicise it

A coupon set to All applies to every course you sell. If a promotion is meant for one program, scope it to that course before the code goes out — you can't retroactively narrow a code students have already used.

Viewing a Coupon

Clicking a row opens the coupon drawer, with two tabs.

Overview Tab

Grouped into four sections:

SectionShows
CouponThe code
DiscountThe discount and what it applies to
ValidityThe date range
Usage LimitsRedemptions so far, whether a total limit is set, and whether it's one use per student

Usage Tab

Coupon Usage History — the most recent redemptions, each showing the student, the course, the class dates and location (hidden for online classes), the date it was applied, and the discount that came off.

Clicking a redemption opens that student's record with the relevant registration already open.

The Export CSV button downloads the complete history rather than just what's on screen. Use it for reconciliation — the panel itself only shows the most recent.

A usage meter above the list shows how much of the redemption limit remains.

Reading the usage meter

The bar fills up as the coupon is used: green under 70%, yellow from 70%, red at 100% — meaning it's exhausted. This is the opposite of the gift certificate balance bar, where red means the money is nearly gone. See Icons & Statuses.

Managing a Coupon

Manage Coupon opens the same fields as the create form, on a Basic Info tab.

Editing a coupon doesn't change redemptions that already happened — past discounts stand at the value applied at the time.

Duplicating a Coupon

Duplicate Coupon copies an existing coupon as the starting point for a new one. Quicker than rebuilding a scoped coupon from scratch when you run the same promotion each season.

Deactivating a Coupon

Deactivate Coupon switches it off without deleting it. The code stops working immediately; its usage history stays intact and visible.

Activate Coupon switches it back on. There is no delete — deactivation is the way to retire a code.

Applying a Coupon to a Registration

Admins can put a coupon on an individual registration, or take one off, from that registration's Payments tab. Useful for honouring a code a student forgot to enter, or for a discount agreed by phone.

A coupon applied this way appears as its own line in the tuition breakdown, separate from any tuition adjustment. A coupon worth more than the tuition brings the total to $0 — never a negative figure.

Applying a coupon to a registration replaces any coupon already on it. A registration carries one coupon at a time.

Key Relationships

  • Courses and Classes: a coupon can be scoped to either. Scoping to a course covers every class of that course, including ones scheduled later.
  • Registrations: a discount attaches to a registration, as its own line in the tuition breakdown. One coupon per registration.
  • Gift Certificates: both can be used on the same registration. The coupon comes off first, and the gift certificate covers what's left.
  • Payments: coupons reduce what's owed. They are not payments and don't appear in payment history.

Tips & Notes

  • Open on Active and stay there. The table defaults to Active for a reason — old coupons accumulate and never get deleted. Only widen the filter when you're hunting for something specific.
  • Duplicate rather than reuse. Editing a live coupon to run a new promotion muddles the usage history. Duplicate it, change what you need, and leave the original to expire.
  • Export the usage CSV before you deactivate. The history stays available, but pulling it at the point you close a promotion gives you a clean record of what it cost.
  • Percentage for headline offers, fixed for gestures. A percentage scales with the course price; a fixed amount is easier to explain when you're making something right for one student.
  • A coupon bigger than the tuition is safe. It settles at $0 rather than creating a credit.
